I went in the garden this afternoon with my new lighting set-up: 580EXII on a Kirk flash bracket. It's a bit lanky, but worked well once I'd fine-tuned the flash position and angle. I mostly saw springtails again, but here are a couple of things I've never seen before.

First is a very small fly or midge. The whole thing must only be about 2mm long. From a different angle I could see it had halteres. Does anyone know anything about it?

Second is a very strange looking thing, and very small too. I only saw it because it wandered through my field of view when I was looking at one of the bigger springtails, which dwarfed it. The body must only be about 1mm long (this is the full capture from a 40D at about 3x on the MPE-65), but it had long antennae. I've never seen anything remotely like it, so I'd be very interested to hear if anyone can tell me anything about it.
