A DIY attempt at portraits of Roscoe...

As I'm really trying to learn, please offer some constructive criticism.

How is the lighting?

Is the dark background a bad choice for a black dog?

Any PP tips, or things you would have done differently? I have Lightroom 2.

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

3. Dad walked in and got his attention:

And finally, what happens when you use CHICKEN for attention  :

Chicken works wonders :D I can see he's drooling in #4. Great shots and dark backgrounds with a dark subject is ok. It can add a very interesting ambiance. There are times where it might not work so well but these are fine.

A very common problem is not getting the entire face in good focus. If you look at the tip of his nose is a little OOF (out of focus). You used an f-stop of f4 which probably isn't enough to get everything in focus. Over time you'll get a feel for this...An f stop of f8 may have worked better. If your shots were from the side f4 may have been ok. Less distance from the front of the dog to the back side of his face that way.

All in all good shots:) Nice dog too!

Thanks for the feedback seaside. :)

I agree I could have gone higher than f4.

Appreciate it. :)

I rather like the background choice, matches his eyes.
