Hello,
Canon 40D is my SLR with Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC set at maximum aperture at f/1.4
I select in MENU Custom Function Settings.
Then I choose Fn IV -5 Focusing Screen

0: Ef-A

1: Ef-D

2: Ef-S

I elected
1: Ef-D
But my Focusing Screen does not show the grid?? It only shows the 9 focusing points.

That's a setting you change depending on which focusing screen you put in your camera. You need to purchase the corresponding screen and install it in place of your current screen in order to get the grid.

DOH.....
I better go back and change it back to 0: Ef-A then.
[Will it make any difference to my focusing If I leave it on this mode I have just selected? What do you feel?]
Thank you &
Regards

Focus no, but I'm pretty sure in will impact metering accuracy. As I understand it, focus sensors are below the mirror and unaffected by the screen, but the metering sensors are up near the penta prism and the light they receive comes through the focus screen. Screens with grid lines, for example, would allow more overall light through than a laser mat screen with no lines. The extra light would skew your metering if not set to the screen in use.

I have read that you need to set it for the focus screen that is in the camera. They did not explain why. I would set it back.

The only Canon that can display an grid in the viewfinder is the 7D. For all the others you have to switch the focusing screen ;)
