Different ISO's allow more/less images on storage card?

I had the camera's ISO at 400 the other day and the camera said there was room for 38 more photos on the SD Card. Changing the ISO to 100 allowed for 41 photos to be taken. Why should that be the case?

The higher the ISO the larger the files..

The higher the ISO, the larger the file size and, therefore, the fewer images for an allotted space. Not sure why but my guess would be that higher ISO images contain more noise, and thus more information, than lower ISO pics.

That is pretty much the case. It can compress less with more noise (even lossless compression).

Yep, noise is random, and random information does not compress well.
