The first five taken with the 40D and 100-400mm, handheld. The next three are with the 7D and 100-400mm, handheld.

Exif included in the images.

Great shots Keith...love the low angles. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the puffins.

Some super shots there, particularly like the Lapwing I think they are elegant birds. How do you find the 7D

Thanks all.

Ken, it's early days for the 7D (or rather, the stinking weather has prevented me from testing it properly since I got it, just before Christmas), but so far I'm liking it very much.

AF is great (particularly the range of configuration options); noise and IQ are really good; and the additional resolution over the 40D is properly useful, both in terms of "croppability" (the Lapwing is a hefty crop, for example), and for the extra fine detail it gives, which is often very obvious.

I like the metering too.

There's no glaring visual difference between 40D and 7D files at this presentation, but bigger files show the differences quite clearly - and you can't tell from looking at a image how hard or easy it was to get in the first place, and the 7D does make life a bit easier in some regards, especially shooting waders like Sanderlings, which are fast little buggers - the AF definitely gives me more keepers.

It looks like that 7D and your 100-400 are a terrific match, Keith
It'll be a little while before the Wife ok's the 7D purchase. I have to lose a little weight first.
I guess that's worth it...

Awesome detail on these Keith. I'd say that 1-4 is a 'good copy', as they say.

Nice job.

Matt.

Keith, great captures, but there is a "soft focus" look to these images.
