I used to see 5D bodies sell rather quickly for $1100 and up, but now I'm seeing many of them sit for days with prices just above $1000. Are prices declining, and if so how far do you think they'll drop?

The reason I ask is that I have the opportunity to purchase a 5D classic with 5K shutter actuations for US$950. Is this a good price or should I wait for a better price down the road? I'm not ready to spend $2K+ on a 5D mkII, but I can swing a 5D without too much trouble.

I'm not sure if full frame will make much difference to me, but I would like to give FF a try at some point. Most of my shots are of my children so I'd like the best IQ I can get since they are growing so fast and I want to capture their early years as best as I can. However, I'm pretty happy with the results I get from my 40D and XTi.

I appreciate any advice or insight anyone may have.

Yup, $950 is very good, especially for such few actuations.

They will keep getting cheaper, however. That's how it works with bodies :D

I agree, but I'm worried that if I wait to buy a 5D classic at a cheaper price later, I won't be able to find one that has less than 50K actuations. Of course, if I buy one now I'll probably like it a lot and want to upgrade to the 5Dmk2 in another 6 months. Sigh... will the gear lust ever end?

Buy it now or let me. Of course it's going to depreciate with time, that's jsut how it is. I've been looking at ebay too and 5Ds with a BIN at $1100 sit for a while. But look at the closing prices for the 5d adn they are usually $1200-1300. There's a lot of morons on ebay and jsut don't bother to look at BIN. I prefer the latter as you have 8% cashback so it's near $1000. I'm personally trying to break tehe $1000 barrier so I can also swing a 17-40 or 24-70 or even the 28-70 too.

I would jump all over this deal! The 5D is a great camera and assuming the body is in good condition, 5K activations is barely broken in.

Funny, I feel like 5Ds have been going for a bit higher than normal although I haven't been paying too much attention.

For $950, I would jump all over that.

$950 is an amazing price. Go for it. One that has $5k accutations won't get as low as $950 for a while!!

I think the 5dc prices are pretty well set for another year and a half or so. Unless the 3d really comes out bit even then I do not see it dropping much.

You said 5k on the shutter but what does the rest look like? Any mirror issues?

950 is a great price for a 5d and even I'd they are 700 next year it is still well worth 950 so I would say if all else is in good condition the. Go for it.

I pulled the trigger on the 5D classic. It was listed at $1050 but 8% Bing cashback ($84) and 2% eBay bucks ($21) reduced it to $945 with free shipping.

I'm still thinking 5D prices might drop, but this could just be a post-Christmas lull and prices may remain over $1000 for a while.

If you decide you don't want the 5D for 950, let me know asap cuz I'm about to buy one for 1100 with over twice as many shutter clicks

It's a great price. You'll love what FF does for portraits and everything else.

I haven't shot with my 5D very much yet, but I like what I'm seeing so far and plan to keep it. I think mine probably has more than 5K actuations, but it's in nice enough shape to not worry about it.

There are a few 5D's on eBay with a buy-it-now price below $1200, so with Bing cashback currently at 10% you could pick one up for $1080 plus shipping. I'm still thinking that 5D used prices may drop further, especially if Bing cashback drops below 8%. I think it'll be a while before you see 5D's selling for less than $1K though.
