I'm having hard time to ID this hawk. Is it a Sharp-shinned or Cooper's Hawk?
I'm leaning towards Sharp-shinned Hawk.

Thanks for posting these shots. I am thinking about buying the 400 f/5.6. Shots like this really help make up my mind. Seems like a great lens for the money! Matt

The best way i know is to look at the tail feathers. The coopers has a more rounded tail with a thicker white strip at the end of the tail when compared to the sharpie.... in fact i think clint's picture is a coopers so you can see the difference in tail shape and the amount of white you see at the end of the tail Jeff

canonloader Cream of the Crop More info | Jan 26, 2010 09:54 | #13 I always look at the legs and feet if possible, First one looks like a pencil legged Sharpie to me. I am guessing that the second one is an adult Sharpie too, but hard to tell. It's much easier when you can see the size of the bird. Mitch- ____...^.^...____
