I am looking in to getting some more battery's for my 40d and on eBay i have found 2 for £9.99 are these cheap ones any good as the genuin canon one is around the £70+ which is a mad price to pay so was wondering if anyone has bought the cheap one and how you got on with them :confused:

Thanks Dan:D

I have purchased a number of brands of eBay batteries for my various cameras. I find that in general they do not have the longevity (years of use - not shots per charge) of the Canon brand but at their price the eBay batteries are far more cost effective.

I have used Ebay batteries in Xt - XTi - 10D - 30D - Fuji - Panasonic equipment without any explosions, bursting, or swelling issues.
I would take the exaggerated mAh ratings with a pinch of salt tho .. ;)

I will however, be using only Canon batteries in the 7D because of the report-back feature

I don't know if they will ship to Europe but check out www.sterlingtek.com (external link) I think it is. Sterlingtek batteries are cheap and I haven't yet found a problem with mine

No need to order from overseas Dan.

You can get a battery from a respectable supplier in the UK. Check out 7Dayshop. The equivalent of the LP-E5 is available there and delivery is both quick and FREE!. And they guarantee all the products they sell. I've used them for 1D, 5D and 10D batteries in the past. No problems but it might be true that they don't last for years. You have to understand that they all come from factories in the far east. If you want the genuine article, you just have to pay up. I'm now using genuine batteries in my 1DMKIII because I want to have the battery recognition and reporting feature built into this model. I'm using a clone in my 5DII and have nothing bad to report except that it doesn't communicate some information to the camera body. That doesn't stop it powering the camera.

I bought one that failed within 6 months, never again. Still using all my original Canon Li's going back to 4 years ago.
What more could you want?

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done
