Hello,
I find on e-bay battery grip for Canon 40D for sale for a fraction of the price of the Canon branded grip.
Is it safe to use on Canon 40D the non-brand battery grip?

Regards

Here is the setup I got off ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com …rgers?hash=item3ca8a0a4da (external link) the grip is GREAT, the battery's SUCK. The battery's wouldn't hold a charge so I threw them away and bought an extra Canon battery. So if I were to do it again I would save my money and just get the grip and then get an Original Canon battery. By the way, I have a 40D as well.

Hi HOCKEYSTIOP,

I see on your link a remote control is bundled with the grip.
Did you get the remote control with that and is so-Does it work well?

Regards

I used 3rd party batteries in my BG E2 for years without any problems at all.

Ive seen lots pf people with no problems on non-Canon grips.

Batterywise, I would look at Sterlingtek - as good as Canon ones anyway in my experience.

I just picked up a Zeikos grip, and SterlingTek Batteries... I have heard great things about both. I unfortunately have not got to use either yet. The quality on the grip and batteries seems top notch.

Just a followup. Over 2.5k actuations and both are working flawlessly.

Are battery grip casings (canon of generics) plastic or metal. If plastic, how about tripod use? As steady / solid as going straight into the body? Also, how well is the metal sleeve that receives the tripod screw mounted into the grip? If one screws the tripod mount very tightly into the grip, any chance on pulling out the sleeve?

I don't know why you'd use a grip for tripod work. The whole idea of them is to facilitate use handheld - that'll be why we call 'em grips.

Take the grip off for tripod work.

For the extra battery power. I've shot is sub-zero environs where the batteries fail in a surprisingly quick time (until you warm them up).

So back to the original question, do you have an answer?
