Anyone gone to the mountain lately and took pictures of friends/people skiing/snowboarding? My friend wants me to go to the mountain with him this weekend and get some pictures since I don't snowboard anymore.

Anyways, anyone willing to share some tips on shooting skiing? The main sports I shoot are golf and hockey so I do have some sport background but I'm wondering some of the following:

Best times of day (I don't have school Friday so that'll make it a lot easier)?
Best angles?
Shutter speeds (are frozen images better or do I aim for a little bit of motion)?
Aperture?
Etc.?

Since you're going to be on the slopes all day, I'd suggest watching the light as it plays over the lay of the land and chase it.

There's a whole slew of angles you can try in ski photography. I suggest you Google "ski photography" and terms similar to view the portfolios of well known photographers in the industry to gain some insight.

Frozen action images are nice, but so are artsy ones with motion blur. Don't be afraid to experiment.

With all the bright snow, there's tons of light to work with. I've seen plenty of ski shots taken at f/8. Use the Aperture which best fits the situation.

As far as gear, I'd take both your 17-55 and 55-250. Maybe your flash too. I recently purchased the Lowepro slingshot 300 AW camera pack and it works great for skiing with gear and being able to pull it out quickly.

Have fun!
