Canon Rumours have just reported that Canon have applied for a patent for a system of Sensor based IS.

I really don't see that coming for the EOS line...
They make much more money putting it in the lenses :p

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

plus just because there is a patent does not mean that they will actually use it... heck canon has patents for so much stuff that they have not put in their bodies.

It would be sweet for sure, but even if they are planning on actually going through with it I bet it will be a while. I hope I'm wrong though, cause the ability to use IS in the lens and in the body at the same time would be amazing.

Either way, I guess they can come up with an idea that works but the cost to pull it off isn't really feasible. The patent prevents the competition from beating them to the punch and buys them some time to find a more cost effective way of doing it.......I guess....

I'd still like to see what they have if you can find the thread though. Pretty interesting.

From what I see on this schema. it's what is used already on our DSLR... it is the ship that control the IS of the lens, see part 134 - zoom/focus/IMAGE STABILIZATION DRIVE CIRCUIT (lens part).
You was thinking the IS of lenses was moving alone? :D

Canon 1DXII | Canon 7D + BG-E7
EF 16-35 f/4L IS USM | EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM
EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM | EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM
EF 50 f/1.2L IS USM | EF 85 f/1.4L IS USM | EF 100 f/2.8L IS USM Macro
EF 2x II Extender | EF-S 60 f/2.8 macro

I thought that would be controlled by the lens. Does IS work on bodies that were made before IS was made?

IS lens might not work because the pins to power the lens are missing. Also, seems to me the gyro is in the lens anyway, not the camera.
Maybe this should move to the "rumors" section.

There is NOTHING in the camera that moves to make Canon's EOS Image Stabilization function. Canon's IS circuitry and other stuff is all in the lens except for the DC power source (the camera's battery) and the "go" signal that is derived from a half-press of the shutter release button.
