Well I guess photographers have a lot more fun predicting camera body specs than new apple product specs.
Threads are hot with discussion about the next body from the minute the current model is released. What is the mark V having for a sensor?

How about a little fun with Apples Tablet that is expected to be revealed today? Specs? Useful in photography? Presentation? Will you buy buy one? OMG how about this: what will be the price? DVD player?

If you don't have a clue what I am talking about....

What will it be?

I'm not interested in buying one but I'm very interested in seeing how it turns out. Rumours suggest a 10" touchscreen device with no lid? It would be odd. Very odd.

How many hours until the event actually starts?

I guess the event starts at 10am PST.
(Isn't it night in Australia now?)

Might as well buy a laptop. I see no difference.

from http://www.cnn.com ….tablet/index.html?hpt=T1 (external link)
The device will have a 1 GHz processor -- an announcement that coaxed "oohs" and "ahs" from the audience.

Pricing will start at $499 for the 16-gigabyte version, $599 for the 32-gig version and $699 for the 64, Jobs said.

Having 3G mobile access will cost an extra $130 on each, he said.

They are scheduled to begin shipping in 60 days.

I think it looks interesting. Definitely going to put a hurt on the Kindle. It won't replace a laptop for real work, but for sitting around the house and checking email, surfing the web, or reading the newspaper I think it looks promising.

a big claim for the Kindle is their e-ink and it's anti fatigue qualities.
If this iPad is also a notebook used for internet surfing, etc., I doubt they will have the easy readability like a kindle, but we'll see. My wife reads the Kindle for hours, if the iPad strains the users eyes, they won't read from it.
Color is a big selling point over Kindle for electronic magazines, etc.

iLounge is reporting there will be a 'camera kit' with a USB and SD to dock connector.

Mac RUmors is reporting that there will be desktop access to the file system directory

So, all of this begs the question(s)
1. Can is view RAW images natively
2. Can an App be made (by Canon or others) that can read RAW images
3. Can it download RAW images from Cameras
4. Can there be camera control via an app
5. Can this act like an Epson Picture viewer/mass storage device

No.

Download Handbreak and make a H.264 version.

Honestly it's a larger IPOD touch with possible 3g on it, not impressed, very underwhelming actually.

Its almost exactly what I was hopeing for. I dont want it to be the next super computer. I just want it to surf arround the house with. And run a bunch of apps I have on my iPod. The only thing I wanted on it that it does not have, is an IR port. It could be the ultamate universal remote.

Just a big iPod is just what I want. The fact it will run iWork is a bonus. Im sure iLife will be on it soon as well.

I'd say it all depends on what the apps can do.

For example, what if Canon released an app that could work with the Camera kit, whereby we can download pictures out of the camera or cards (via USB), store them and view them later. Sure, we can do this on small laptops. However, the screens on these are horrible. This screen is IPS (In Panel Switching) with a LED back light - so it will likely have better color. A device like this is how I want to interact with my images, not some craptastic netbook screen.

This is not going to replace my 17 inch MacBook Pro anytime soon, but I could see this having a place in my camera bag.
