I've seen leases for companies (banks, firms, retailers,...) that span from minutes to 5-10 days. Never have I seen any with leases that span months. At those most users come in sit and only a small group travel any amount. Network I'm currently on serves a large number of users worldwide and the leases here are 8 days. I also have a government client with tracking requirements by law and theirs are 7 with next to zero traveling users and large number of them. I really don't want this to complete dissolve into a DHCP debate on best practices though.

I don't care about the iPad's issues personally. The networks I deal with they aren't allowed on. The issue is that it is a real issue that in some areas can cause conflicts. It's an issue that shouldn't happen to begin with.

No it isn't new technology and when it comes to the networking aspects it is expected to abide by the same standards everyone else does.

Avaya recommend that their ip phones are put on a 60 day lease so it does happen.

Again just because it is "reported" as an Apple issue doesn't make it so, same as when Microsoft were blamed for Blue Screening computers with Windows Updates then weeks later they discover it was a virus that the update "messed up".

There are those that like the ipad, those that don't and syntrix who I think just likes the fun of ragging everybody. It's not perfect by any means but it's also not as s**t as some would make you believe.

Please try and remember the interweb is full of stories with headlines to make you read them and troll bate, I suspect there is very little fact in any of them.

Those are phones...

Read my other post. Apple is working on fixing the problem. They have confirmed there is an issue.

I never said it was s**t. I've said it is overpriced, not as innovative as people make it out to be and lacking in features, but I haven't called it s**t. Of course depending on the usage I could consider it s**t for the price...

Minutes? Wow, don't think I've ever seen that before. I can only imagine the gigs of records that would produce over a year. The Fed ordered us to track every movement, record every email, copy every transaction and record every in/out IP (for 5-7 years back). I could only imagine one machine having dozens (or hundreds in the case of minutes) of IPs over the course of a year.

It 'shouldn't', but it does and not only to Apple. Microsoft has had a few big disasters as have many other companies/products. Cisco has had a few blades with replication problems due to bad chips. Man, I can go on and on and on with big companies who have had big issues with networks - and they 'complied' with standards. The iPad is new. It will have bugs. Get over it. It's not like its a heart monitor for a major hospital.

And yes, it's very new technology. It did not exist last year, therefore it is new. It may have parts that others have used, an OS that is very similar to the iPhone OS, parts of the CPU have already been implemented on other devices, IPS technology has been around for a while.... Going by your logic every car that comes out should get a five star crash rating, 50MPG and have no defects since we've been making them for more than 100 years (technically more than that).

So, does the mean you'll be dropping all the company's who have had products or services mess up royally within a month of being released?

Those who have to track for legal purposes aren't on minutes they are usually around 7-8 days and if their users are a logging in often enough they get the same IP so it doesn't generate a lot of change to track. Even had said that gigs of records in a year isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. Dealing with even a terabyte's worth of logging a year and generating reports based on that isn't even a challenge.

It's not new technology. It's existing tech in a new device. I don't think you tied any logic into your car comparison at all and is unrealistic. I never said they shouldn't have any issues. I said having this type of issue dealing with DHCP shouldn't have happened to begin with. They should have a mechanism that flushes it appropriately.

Like I said I have no problem with it. I don't care. Those devices aren't allowed on any network I have to deal with and personally it's at a price point that I don't consider it's features worth. I'm just responding to those that seem to think it's not a problem or not Apple's problem to fix.

Your last question is a gross exaggeration of my statements...again.

Seems this thread is generating a bit of anger and the swear filter just got a bashing.

That is far to much angst for a simple media consumption device.

Thread closed.
