I do agree that the iPad will change many things for the magazine and newspaper industries, one of which was already falling apart.

I do not think it will really change a lot for the photographer. We have already had resources to upload images to portable devices, and some of us don't even use those. They also pointed out that it's a 10" screen, but if you think about that, 10" is really small.

I like the idea, and Apple will make money on it, but I don't think it will be a break through for the photography industry.

Potential customer "Sir do you have any shots from previous shoots that you have done."
"Photog "Why yes'um just select a gallery and swipe you finger across at you own pace."

For storage or PP No I think it would suck. For a portfolio I think it would ROCK

Why yes'um just select a gallery and swipe you finger across at you own pace.

I do that now with an iPhone...

No need to carry an additional 3 pounds! ;)

I won't be dragging one of those around to read a newspaper or magazine, so they have one fail already.

Some people can not see the small screen to well. Also if they have others with them the phone can get a little crowded.

Not to mention the ole lady and peeps texting me.

How is this different from a laptop other than it doesn't have a protective closing cover and a keyboard that's easy to use?

I just don't get the pad thing. Although the Kindle is pleasant on the eyes, I don't mind reading on a regular computer screen. And if it's just a novel I'm reading, I'd rather have a paperback for half the price of a Kindle book, and I can drop the paperback in the mud or water at the beach and still read it.

I like laptops. Small laptops, but laptops nevertheless. I want something I can open and close with a real keyboard.

And netbooks (decent ones) are less than 300-400 bucks, and you can store unlimited data online for 50 bucks a year (mozy and others).

I just don't get it (the pad thing). Besides, from what I've heard (today on NPR) that pads have not been profitable for companies.

What am I missing?

Thank you. bw!

The camera connection kit is what most appeals to me. You'd be able to upload to flickr on the go directly from the camera. And as stated, portfolio wise it's probably a good idea. Also, it seems to be a possible replacement for text books. I'd buy books like "Light: Science and Magic" on this thing, I wouldn't do that on my iPod.

Oh and Flying...it's 1.5 lbs.

Yikes. Check out this quote. That knocks me out of the game right there:

"The iPad runs a variation of the iPhone's operating system. And, though it's based on OS-X, it isn't OS-X, and therefore standard image processing applications such as Aperture, Lightroom, Capture One and Photoshop won't run on it."

Thank you. bw!

No thanks. ;)

But actually it wasn't Koolaid those 900 people drank. It was Flav-o-Aid, a generic knockoff that was much cheaper than Koolaid.

Besides, if you're going to lace your cheap grape punch with rat poison, you might as well use the cheap stuff since it's going to taste like hell anyway.

Thank you. bw!

It's a fail, it's an own goal. It can't even multi-task.

I've got a tablet PC and I love it, it took me a long time to "get" the tablet thing but now I do it's wonderful for editing. Ok you can load a portfolio on an ipad and say "swipe across the screen to view" but then you are really paying a lot of money just for a gimmick, when you can achieve the same thing using a laptop that you can also use for editing your photos.

When I heard rumours of an apple tablet, I was expecting a MacBookPro in a tablet PC form factor that my Mac loving graphics friends would be falling over to get. It's a Newton again and people ditched the Newton for PDAs that fit *in* your pocket.

The camera connection kit immediately made me wish that the Touch had the same thing.
