From a local beach today - 7D and 100-400mm, 400mm handheld, 800 ISO.

So I'm guessing that as-and-when I can get the 7D, you'd say it will go really well with my 100-400L?

Skygod, yes indeed - my 100-400mm was very good on my 40D, but on the 7D it's like a new lens: I'm seeing more fine feather detail and better microcontrast than I ever got from the 40D with the lens.

It's a great combo.
