Your Picture make me order the Qbox24

I don't know how to use it yet bu I go head to order it
I have to take my family portrait picture this Father's day.
I will use what I have Qbox24 on the way and 50mm 1/8 with 430EX.
if you can give me some advice which set up is the best for Portrait?

Got my Qbox24 from UPS this morning. Solid construction. The only thing I dont like about it is how it mounts to the bracket. I feel like a big gush of wind can blow that softbox right off.

jimmyt, thank you. No, it was just with Qbox24. As I said in the post I got the Qbox as close as I could to really darken the background. I am really a sports photog and this is out of my comfort zone. Someone else on here is going to have to give you advise on setting up for portraiture. Look at some of the great portraits on this thread and pick their brain.

My post above was taken during a really windy day. It did not blow it off. It was really frustrating because as I was shooting the wind kept twisting the softbox on the stand and I couldn't figure out which connection to tighten to stop it from twisting:confused::cry: And when I was through I took my camera and lens inside and when I came back my light stand w/qbox was blown over! But it was still connected to the bracket. So don't think it is more susceptible to blowing off than any other softbox.

same here, how do we keep it from twisting around the mount?

The rotating softbox problem is not the softbox but the lightstands. You will have this issue with almost all lightstands unless you using beefier avenger/mathews stuff. I moved to a avenger steel stand and no issues.

Bobbyz is correct. Has nothing to do with the softbox but your stand or lightstand/umbrella adapter. Either one of your telescoping clamps isnt tight or the adapter isnt tightened down. Check all your connections first.

Of course it is(was) the lightstand/umbrella adapter. I was trying to make the point that though the mount to the bracket appears wind susceptible, it really isn't. The wind blew it around on on the lightstand but it did not come off. In fact, the wind blew it over and it was still attached to the bracket.

I was only shooting for a few minutes to take the flower picture. Clearly had I been shooting longer I would have figured out which connection needed tightened to keep it from twisting.

These were all done with Canon 5D and the 100 F/2. All had extension tubes, at least one 12, or possibly all three (12, 24, 36mm). All were lit with Qbox 24 with either Metz 58 AF or Canon 580.
