Do I need to buy the speed pro bracket if I plan on using this with cactus v5?

The standard one will work, there are lots of room for you to adjust. I used cactus v5 and now the Pocket Wizard Flex which is about the same size.

Question, how large is the coverage of Qbox24 compares to a standard shoot through umbrella? Does it cover more than a 30" umbrella?

I don't know what coverage you are looking for.. but the qbox 24 produces a much softer light that my 43" Westcott umbrella

You mean the light just less contrast than the umbrella? I'm pretty sure if the 43" put close enough to the subject it will produce softer light since it is a much larger light source.

My Qbox 24 arrived today and my Pocket Wizard Plus IIs get here tomorrow (thanks Amazon Prime!). Edward was nice enough to respond to my email with questions in like 30 seconds at nearly 10PM. I didn't even answer the phone because I had no idea who it was and I was dog tired. He emailed me too. So I ordered the next day based on his recommendations and THEN he was nice enough to call and let me know I didn't need to pay for 2 Day shipping because Dallas to Austin would get there in 1 day with Ground. Sweet!

So now I'm setting up and really happy with the quality of everything. I got the Qbox24 and the Cheetah 8 stand because I wanted something we could pick up and hand carry for wedding receptions. I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten the 16" for this purpose but I'll order that in a few weeks.

Now to my only problem. I've watched his video like 10 times, but I can't get the softbox to mount on the ring! It looks like it just slips on but it doesn't seem to "catch" in place and then it ends up shifting around on the bracket, which I know isn't right. Is there a trick to this? What am I doing wrong? I'm am not always the smartest with spatially-relation-type things so I know I'm just being a moron but can someone explain it slowly? I'll email Edward tomorrow if I don't get a response here. Not going to bother him on Friday night!

Can't wait to play!!!!

while the modifier itself may be much larger than the 24" softbox, if you take a picture and stop down while the camera is straight at the shoot through umbrella you will find that shoot through's really dont diffuse that much, there is a large hotspot in a small area and the rest just kinda lights up, whereas in the qbox24 its more evenly spread over that 24" than with an umbrella

I had the same problem... But after 20 minutes of tinkering, I finally figured it out...

The box frame uses four U-shaped rods. they all converge at the back where there's the opening for the flash. You simply push the bracket ring into the "mount" created by the four rods.. You do not push the bracket ring through the fabric..that's what I was trying to do..

It seems sort of flimsy for the four rods to pinch (or hold) the bracket ring in place, but that's how it works.

Although I've had mine a week, I haven't had a chance to test it yet.. I'm impressed by the build quality of the box itself, although the bracket coupling aspect seems a bit lacking...

Edited to add the following photo... This is how the bracket should fit into the back of the box... It's a simple tension mounting under the frame rods.

QUOTED IMAGE

Thanks wpman. That finally clicked for me too, after like the 20th time I watched the video. I agree it doesn't seem super secure, but I haven't read reports of people having trouble with the box falling off so we'll see. I appreciate the picture!

if you actually leave the bottom "U" shape out and only have the metal under the 2 side and top U rods then the bag will not sag when on a stand and you can control it a lot more than if it was in all 4 like that
