Hey everyone,

So... I ordered the Rode shotgun mic from B&H, for my 5D Mk II (after reading NOTHING but positive reviews).
It came in today, ran over to Radio Shack for a battery, and popped it in the mic. It won't turn on.

I bought a Kroger Alkaline 9V battery. It fits and everything, but; when I flip it on, the light does not turn on, and it [of course] doesn't work.
However, the first time I flipped the switch, the light turned red for a second then faded off... Ever since then I haven't even been able to get any light to turn on.

I bought a 2 pack of the batteries, and neither of them are working.
I will get a Duracell 9V battery tomorrow, and see if there's something wrong with Kroger, or maybe there is something wrong with my mic.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Just tried a Duracell V9 battery. Same thing.
The light won't turn on, and it [obviously] doesn't work.

Is there something I could possibly do to fix\test this further? Or will I have to send it in? (It has a 10 year warranty, with Rode)

I have the NTG-2, which is the rode shotgun mic, that had broken solder connection from the battery holder to the main components. I dugged through the assembly of the microphone and those connections were very sketchy. Now, that's on a shotgun mic, not a videomic, so I'm just saying.... you can check their connection.

However, when it work, it works excellent w/ great sound quality.

Since this happened basically out of the box, I'd call B&H and ask them to replace it. Certainly appears there is something wrong with the mic and not multiple batteries.

Don't delay contacting B&H if you'd like them to replace it - time is of the essence for them to replace it rather than sending it to Rode for warranty repair.

Regards,
Jim
