My current computer running 32 bit Vista is being upgraded to a new machine running 64 bit Windows 7.

I have a copy of CS3 (and upgrade from CS2) and would like to upgrade to CS5 (64 bit) once it comes out.

If I load CS3 on the new computer and then upgrade to CS4 or 5 do those applications automatically run in 64 bit mode? Also, when you purchase CS4 or the future CS5 is there only one version (example, no separate installer for 32 bit and 64 bit)?

My last question is if I wait for CS5 will I need to remove CS3 before doing the upgrade or do I upgrade over top of it?

CS4 automatically installs 64bit on 64bit systems (think only photoshop and premiere). And you have the option of installing 32bit as well. No extra installers or anything.

I'd say remove CS3 first, but check the Adobe website to see what they say.

Besides... pretty sure CS5 was designed to be x64 only, so only 64bit programs.

CS4 installed both 32 & 64bit versions automatically on my system, no option for one or the other.
I would think Adobe would be shooting themselves in the foot by not offering 32bit CS5. There are still alot of 32bit apps and plugins out there and 32bit operating systems out there.

1) There is an option, it's just enabled by default. If you don't go into the advanced install though, you won't even see it.
2) The plugin makers are already shooting themselves in the foot by not going x64. All the major OSes already support x64 versions, and adobe's given them two years to get x64 plugins working. People will switch to CS5, they will have to for ACR and all the cool new features. Only ones left in the dust will be plugin makers, since all computers made in the last four years support 64bit operating systems. Even netbooks can run 64bit OSes.
3) Might not be CS5, but wouldn't be surprised if it was, given that OSX version will be intel only.

I don't disagree with any of that logic and i wish developers would pick up the pace. I am only thinking that if they make CS5 64bit only, they would be discarding potential buyers that don't wish to pay to upgrade their plugins ($$$$) even if they are available in 64bit. Currently, I run both versions of CS4 because of my 32bit plugins and place blame solely on the plugin makers. If CS5 is 64bit only, i wouldn't buy it and that I would blame Adobe for. YMMV.

Edit: ...had an afterthought... but then again, if Adobe continues to offer 32bit, then the plugin developers are under no pressure to speed up their progress are they? I guess one could look at it different ways.

Thanks.

Since I'll be using CS3 (32 bit) until CS5 comes out will my 32 bit plugins work? Also I see on the Noiseware site that Noiseware Pro will work with 64 bit CS4 running on 64 bit Vista but will only work with CS4 in 32 bit mode with 64 bit XP. They don't mention 64 bit Windows 7, so does anyone have it working on that platform with 64 bit CS4?

Creative Suite CS4 installed both Photoshop 64 and 32 bit automatically on my Windows 7 64 bit. It's nice in a way because I can fire up the 32 bit Photoshop in order to use some of the older plug-ins.

Do you have Noiseware Pro, and if you do have you tried using it with 64 bit CS4 to see if it works? It's supposed to work with 64 bit Vista (but not 64 bit XP).

Yes Noiseware Pro works, but older OnOne and Nik Software plug-ins don't. I have to run 32 bit Photoshop for those plug-ins to load and be available.

Fortunately the only other plugins I use are Kodak ROC and GEM for correcting negative scans, and I doubt either will work.
