I just bought a 30D from someone on here and the AF does not work on M, Av, Tv, P. I've tried two different lenses and they both work on my 20d

it works on all the other functions, is this somthing that needs to be set on the camera? Is there a custom function that is different than my 20d that i dont know about.

I have tried pulling all batteries and resetting with NO luck.

Before you go accusing someone of ripping you off, are you sure the AF isn't set to the back button?

Right, push the * button on the back of the camera and if that makes the camera focus, there ya go. Then reset all functions back to stock.

Pulling both batteries should have reset that.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

PS you might want to tell the guy that you bought it from that it was a misunderstanding, before he craps himself lol.

thanks guys, its now fixed - i thought pulling batteries would reset anything. the camera was clearly dropped which wasn't described thougth, so i thought maybe that was what was causing it. the pop up flash has to be pushed really hard to get it to stay - not a big deal but still wish items were described correctly.

mutau052,

In your position I'd have immediately thought the worst as well. I know a lot of people here use their cameras this way, but as an old dog, I cannot learn that particular new trick.

I am actually surprised the previous owner left it set up like that. I would naturally clear any of my personal/odd settings so the next person starts with a clean sheet. I wonder what other oddments you are going to find?

I think this is maybe a good reminder for folks to restore defaults when selling a body. I had a guy kind of flip out on my one time when I sold him a camera with all my CF settings still enabled (including * focus).

This is why I don't sell anything. I simply avoid the hassle and trade in my equipment at a reputable dealer who knows what they are getting.

I normally dont buy through people either, but i got a 30D (which has been bumped and works just fine - this was not accurately described and is what caused the scare - because after removing both batteries and the watch battery i got no where - restored everything and am good to go now) and BG-E2N (Like new cant even tell it was used) all for $410 kinda hard to pass that up.

Good 30D + Like new BG-E2N = $410 - i think its a pretty good deal.
