Any idea on how much this costs to fix? I would like to have a ballpark when I bring it in to the repair centre tomorrow. Canon 5d with body damage around the mount and the screw just above the crack has pulled its thread too :( going to be fixed on insurance if its too costly..

Honestly... where did you get this number?

OP> Not sure about the repair cost, hopefully someone can chime in with a real number.

in spain you can get the job on hours + pieces. or a fixed rate for ex the shutter was 80 euros an hour plus parts or 560 fixed. i got the fixed and my insurance paid out. if the pieces amount to more than expected value canon wont fix but ask if youd rather not buy a new one...

Thanks zincozinco, I think there is a lot involved with this as the screw has pulled so that means that part of the body has to be replaced also.

muy old eos 5 has been like that for years of usage - if the camera works use it, if it breaks - fix it..

I would guess around $250.00 or so. If I'm looking at this correctly, the mount unscrews from the faceplate and the faceplate unscrews from the body. It doesn't look like a major fix...how did it happen?

Lens attached and fell over, silly mistake. One of the screws has pulled its thread out so that might be hassle?

If the screw lost its threads, they just replace it. If the hole is stripped, they may be able to re-tap it. Either way, I think that you are ok and it isn't going to be ungodly expensive to repair this. I can't imagine that this is the first time this ever happened. Are you sending it directly to Canon or are you having a local repair shop do the work?
