Is upgrading F/4 to F/2.8 IS version of 70-200mm worth?

Is F/2.8 as sharp as F/4 version?

Thanks

I don't know, to be honest the 70-200 f/4 was the sharpest one I used in good light. the f/4IS was the sharpest one i used in not so good light. The 70-200 2.8 is sharp but I would only get it if I needed the speed.

What do you shoot?

Thanks for the prompt reply. Even though presently I don't require speed, in future I would like to shoot sports and night concerts.

I am getting a good opportunity to sell my F/4, that is why I was considering an upgrade. Most important concern for me at this stage: Is F/2.8 IS as sharp as F/4?

Currently I think the f/4 70-200 lenses are the sharpest. but the 2.8 lenses are not soft by any means. I would wait to get a 70-200mm f/2.8 L is classic dirt cheap in a month or get the mark II when it comes out. Although I see it has been changed from coming out in February to April

Do you think 70-200 F/2.8 IS will be cheaper than what it is now once version II come out in April?

Did IS version of 100 mm macro bring the price of 100 mm macro non-IS down?

Yes

The new 100 did bring the prices down some i think. However it was also not a direct replacement. The new 70-200mm is a direct replacement.

The 70-200mm f/4 L IS is a great lens and I do not think yo uwill find to much said about it that does not reflect that. However if you are going to shoot many games indoors or at night then you are going to need shutter speed and all the IS in the world can not help with that.
