Does anyone have an overlay comparing the three viewfinders and how the three AF point arrays align?

I have seriously considered moving to a D700 for several months, seems like an incredible camera. The thing keeping me with Canon is that my favorite part of this hobby is shooting birds. And, with the D700 being full frame, I'd need to purchase at least a 500mm or 600mm lens, and I don't have the cash for that. Canon's 400 5.6 and 100-400 are keeping me in the family.

I was able to float the viewfinder screenshots from dpreview and hold them over each other. The D700 very much covers considerably more area than the 5D and just about as much as the Mark III.

True Mark, in general, Nikon's glass is more money and you'd need more reach. However, their glass is incredible.

I'd actually like to stick with the family and have a Mark IV.

Theres the Sigma 150-500 for that ;)

I contemplated it quite heavily as well....

if it wasnt for the 7D I'd have said goodbye as well..

Kenji, after seeing some shots in the Bigmos archives (yours and others), it is a possibility I hadn't thought of with full frame. I am happy now with my 1d3 and 100-400, I seem to have good copies of both. But, if that happiness changes, I would either be going to a 7d (as a last ditch effort to stay with Canon) or D700.

Sorry to sidetrack Mike. :D

LOL i didnt have mine long though...the few shots i took with it are horrid!

But the 150-500 is a good lens, Close to the 100-400 in a lot of ways at a better price..Better OS too

Canon already has nice glass, they just keep making it better.

If you want to jump to Nikon, go do it. There are great boards for Nikon users no doubt.
