going to a nhl game, not sure where the seats are yet but will my 55-250 on my xt do the job?

Depends on where you are. Close to the glass it'll be great. Get there early so you can shoot during the pre-game skate.

If you have seats that mere mortals are able to acquire then you may find it a little short.

well i know there fords luxury box seats so they have to be somewhat decent

Depends on how the area is set up. Go to the ACC in Toronto and there are really good box seats all along the glass. Go to the Verizon Center here in DC and the best available box seats are around the rear of the lower bowl.

If you are anywhere in the lower bowl then the lens should be fine although you may wish you had more to work with at times.
