This is a picture of a friend who let my wife & I borrow his studio lights for some maternity photos. I pointed the camera at him as a joke and he said I wouldn't get a good exposure with no flash/lighting. So, the odd framing and busy background were not planned. I just took a quick shot to prove him wrong and later realized I really liked the photo.

Let me know what you think.

Looks very, very good to me. Obviously no problem with the available light for the exposure. :D

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

Just had to bump up the ISO. I was borrowing his EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro (I only had my kit lenses at the time) when I took this. He helped me a ton years ago with 35mm and was always dead on with f-stop/shutter speed advice. Maybe he didn't have faith in my 450D's higher ISO ability.

If you have time I would recommend browsing through some of his work (external link). He is an amazing photographer IMHO.

the contrast of all the features of his face (darks and lights of facial hair and evenly-toned skin) make this GREAT in black and white, and the light reflecting off of his eyes make him look very earnest and sincere. nice work- especially for being candid!

This is a great shot nice job on getting light into the eyes. He definitely knows what he is talking about too though and had he been behind the lens he might have thought differently you never know. It is great to have a mentor to help and get you started. I will never forget the photographer that mentored me.
