Had a go with my medium format (Kiev 88CR with provia 100F) and these are just some low-q scans.

Firefox doesn't really do justice to the beautiful fujichrome provia colours, but you get the idea:P

I like both shots. Your brother looks like a younger Bob Dylan.

Thanks.

I'm in love with medium format. I just wish Canon would hurry up and make one... I don't have £20K to spend on a Hasselblad!

I've got H3DII, but even though i ordered Hasselblad 501CM, i want to go film direction even i am late in that, now almost my Mamiya is ready, and my holga pinhole [got it today my order from B&H], and i am still looking for a lens for my film hassy then i will go out and shoot film [In 120 film size] for first time.

Sounds great! My Kiev although great, doesn't have great magazine/lens options, so I'm trying to find a good price for a Hassel' 503CX

Maybe I'll be able to afford a H series one day!

And why you want a H series camera?
You can find H1 or H2 used camera, also you can use P30+ or P45+ used if you can find, i think that combo will be a bit cheaper than new H series digital, remember that H2D/H3D/H4D are all digital, H1 and H2 are film bodies, and Hasselblad produced a digital back for them [CFV], and in some forums there are some people selling their H3D [31, 39], so how much budget you have?

Hello Ben - nice looking shots. I always got a kick out of the Kiev's.... never owned one but was amazed at how they imitated the Hassy's.

There's an excellent place in the U.S. for used gear as well as new called Keh.com. They have a phenomenal inventory of equipment. I just did a quick check of their site and see they have have a 503CX in EX+ condition for $569. Keh's equipment ratings tend to be conservative, so if they say EX+ that means they are AT LEAST as good as that if not slightly better. Here is that listing:

You'll need to scroll down a bit. I still have my Hassy film gear - a 503CW I got in 1998 - perhaps one day I'll get a digital back for it. Hope this helps - Stu

I'd just love to work with a digital MF body, never have done before. But I'm just as happy to use 120 film.

To be honest I don't see myself getting a Hassy (let alone digital one) too soon... have all sorts of other things to pay for. But medium format definatly isn't something I'll forget about!

^ Cheers for the link! Some interesting stuff there

Certainly can understand that Ben - we have a wedding coming up this May which will cost me a couple of nickels and I promised my wife a car before she retires .

A digital blad would be a lot of fun to play with, but it wont' make me a better photographer or give me much more in capabilities than what I already have. And for a third of what it would cost, I could buy a hekuva' lot of Canon body and glass that would be more practical for my type of shooting.:D

I do agree that 120 film was a lot of fun to play around with. But as for the LATEST 'blad....nope, just don't have that kind of discretionary cash....

Congrats on the wedding! My situation is quite similar to yours in a way, need a car... but before I retire, but before I begin a carreer :p

I agree on the practicality issue, I'd probably use my Canon SLR & DSLR 95% of the time, as I'm not really a studio shooter, but a digi hassy is just a dream. I'm in love with the look of 120 film though so I'm more than happy to wait!

It is a joy to have a digital medium format, but really it will not add a lot to your photography skill, i bought a lot of things, first i was thinking to get better, but i found that i can be better without much gear, but then i changed my thinking and bought a lot of gear for joy and fun and not to get better.

Now i really want to start shooting with film, now a simple question, do i need to load the film roll in the camera in so dark room? or only i need dark room when i want to develop the film?

Goodo', It's a joy working with 120 film!

No need to load film in darkroom, just put it in your magazine and wind it on like a normal roll of 35mm. I would still do it in reasonably dark conditions though.

For developing (if you decide to do it yourself) then yes in the dark room absolutley. Once developed and you have your transparencies, then you can expose to light.
