I wonder if you could actually mount one of these on a beetle?

where was this taken near Sac? I used to live in Roseville and I can't think of anywhere around there you could find one of those.

McClellan AFB (now McClellan business park) had a very under publicized aviation museum. They recently finished huge upgrades to it and the A10 is one of their exhibits. They used to service them at McClellan so it was probably easy for them to get their hands on one. They even had a repair practice one they used to roll out to an empty taxiway, shoot the crap out of, and roll it back to the hanger and fix it. They actually did some of the early A10 development there so they used to have a pretty big presence, the hangers on the west side were mostly dedicated to them.

Is it a tape measure? Particularly the area underneath the slide that locks the tape?

Tragic, isn't it. We wait 46 hours for a photo to look at (is that a record?) and it's identified within 15 minutes. Let's hope milleker can give us a (slightly) more challenging one!

Someone, please take it, I am away from home and while I do have my camera gear, it won't be easy for me to come up with something in a timely fashion.

I like the robot feet guess. Looks like it!
