Itt looks like something that has been knitted. But I suspect it's actually a much higher magnification and we're looking at a piece of tightly-woven cotton (or something like that).

Is the blue pattern significant?

My first guess would have been a lens cleaning cloth, but It's rather thin. Possibly a handkerchief, or maybe a curtain?
