Completed my NASM collection of images with my visit yesterday to the main building in DC. The lighting and cramming is even worse there...despite the high ISO, I think I was able to gather some pretty good shots. Let me know what you think...

Nice shots. I haven't been there in years. Do they still have that scale model of the USS Enterprise? Or maybe it wasn't the Enterprise.

I don't know which carrier it is but yes, it's still there.

Although I have a great affinity for the aircraft from WWII, the WWI planes have a nostalgia and mystique that is all their own. I think they are so fantastic: graceful and full of color, fragile yet deadly in their time. I think to go up in the air for hours in these wooden contraptions took a whole 'nother level of balls than most men have these days.

NASM is one of the (few) things I miss about living on the East Coast.

Nice work here!

Survival in early automobiles wasn't measured in hours...

It was also highly unlikely that you'd have to leap out of one to your death without a parachute because the alternative was burning alive as you spiraled to the ground.

Thanks Greg. The one in DC looks bigger than it is...The WWII, WWI and Naval Aviation rooms are my favorites and all three of those can be completed in about an hour. I think the entire museum can be done in maybe two hours. Three if you go to the IMAX theater and/or Einstein planetarium.

It really depends on your interest and how much reading you do in the exhibits, I have a pretty good knowledge at what I'm looking at so I tend not to read all the stuff on the walls much.

If you really want to spend some time go to the Udvar-Hazy Center. It's well worth the trip and you get special guided tours by very knowledgeable gentlemen. Just seeing the Space Shuttle is worth the trip out there all in itself.
