OK, I've been having some issues with my MkIIn lately, so I went ahead and accelerated my time-line for buying a MkIII.

It's going to get here late Wednesday and I've got basketball games Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so I won't get much time to play with it. I was hoping I could get some quick advice from the other basketball shooters out there as to which Cfn & Pfn's to set right away that I wouldn't think of when going from a MkIIn to a MkIII along with any other things to think of.

Thanks!

I need to find a reason to acclerate my purchase of a MIV too.

Thanks for the links Jeff! I wish I had more time to look them over, the camera's about 45 miles away right now awaiting delivery! Can't wait.

That last one is great for describing the AF Cfn's. Very easy to understand!

Do I enable that in the Pfn menu? Do I need to hook it up via firewire to do that?

That reminds me, do I need to hook it up via firewire to enable the Pfn menus & put in my "author" name.

Yes you do Derek. There are a lot of things to go through but I really don't change much except for Servo speed. I could give you a list of my settings if you want.

Thank you, I hadn't seen that guide before.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done

I think I've got a fair handle on it with the links that Jeff put up. I'll try and figure out what works best for me from there. Thanks!

Perhaps you should stick with the MkII for work until you've had time to digest the MkIII further?

Why stress yourself over fumbling with new gear in the heat of battle?

I'm guessing I'll get more than 4 shots out of 125 in-focus with the MkIII, regardless of how I have it set up.

I've gone from about a 90% in-focus rate for basketball to less than 5% in a month. The first game it happened, I blamed myself. The next 4, I was still in denial. After shooting almost 500 shots on Thursday and having less than 25 keepers, I give up. I'm not 100% sure if its my 70-200 or the IIn, but I need to get them both checked out. My 85 was acting pretty erratic as well, which is why I'm leaning towards the camera being bad.

Ah, didn't realize the MkII was giving you problems...

By all means, fire up the MkIII then! :D

Had to chase down the UPS guy to sign for it, cut she's here! Me likey so far. Can't believe how much lighter this thing is than my MkIIn. I didn't think it would even be noticeable. I'm really liking the menu system as compared to the IIn as well.
