looks like a decent lens for those that NEED macro capabilities... otherwise there plenty of other lenses out there better.

Honestly, I was VERY looking forward to this lens when it was announced, mostly due to the 17-50 and 90mm macro being stellar (for the price anyway).
It looks good, but I think it's a tad too expensive for what you get. However, focusing macro on F/2 would seem like a joy, especially when tubes are involved and the viewfinder gets darker and darker. No more taping a led flashlight to the flash ;)
It would also be a very nice alternative to alternating the 100mm 2.8 for macro (and as a tele prime) and the 50mm 1.8. Who knows, maybe some day :)

I'm with Gasrocks on it

Truthfully, i wanted to like it, 60mm and f/2 sounds like an excellent combo for both portraits and macro work..however:

-like the EF-S 60mm, theres no focus limiter, Which means if you use it for "normal" stuff and it hunts, its going to hunt through the entire range unless you FTM it back to infinity...That sorta kills it to me for portrait work (Which is the entire reason its f/2, not f/2.8)

-I dont trust Tamron's AF, Sorry, 2 lenses i owned from them didnt have accurate AF..I know its a macro so i dont expect speed, but id expect accuracy

-The price is hard for me to swallow here for some reason...Over $500 for it puts it in the same price territory as a used 150mm f/2.8 Sigma, a 100mm f/2.8 Canon, a 90mm Tamron, a 105mm Sigma...and a lot of other Macro lenses, a lot of which are more established and have focus limiters...

Eh...i guess im too picky huh?

You've seen Sigma 150/2.8's for $500 ?

Rerading the review link posted by gasrocks suggests that the lens is not all that inspired.

Anything more recent..... I haven't seem one for < 900 recently.

It really has been a very pricey lens in Canada this last year. 13 months ago I bought my Sigma for $750 brand new after tax from Don's.

It's also a good "regular" lens although not the fastest focusing, even with the limiter set. Sharp and none of the color cast that many people mention when they talk about Sigma's. I haven't noticed it, yet.

Oh, did I say it was sharp.

The Sigma 150 is probably the best IQ lens I own.
AF is fast enough when I'm out with the birds.
