Just curious as to how many others have purchased off brand OC-E3 cords and found them to not work? Reason I ask is that I purchased one last week from BHS Unlimited and when I hooked up my 430EX II to my 40D the flash would not fire.

I went into the menu settings on the camera and I get a message saying "This menu cannot be displayed. Incompatible flash or flash's power is turned off". I double checked the 430 by putting directly on the hot shoe and it works fine. So common sense tells me the cord is bad.

I know that Amamzon has the Opteka ones and reviews seem to be pretty good on them. Anyone here using Opteka? Any other ones to look at? Can't afford the Canon version right now + they seem to break too easy from what I have read lately.

High quality, prompt service. I have the 24' version-works just like the short OEM cords.

I just got this one from B&H

I'm having issues with it as well. It works sometimes consistently, then not. seems like if I take it off the hotshoe and my new 580ex ii then reconnect everything it will usually work again.
After this and the cactus v2s triggers, I'm getting really tired of things not working and about to plunk down the money for a set of Pocket Wizards!

The type like sk8rdi16 listed above with the screw lock mount do not work well with the 580exII and since the new 430exII has the same mount I think its the same. The flash zebra, and YN cords work just like the canon and comparing both side to side seem to be nearly identical. I havent tried the opteka but a recent post by another user showed it to be of similar quality to the ones I mentioned. The dot line product is just horrible. I dont know why B&H stocks such a turkey.

Why would anyone buy something other than the Flash Zebra cords? Reasonably priced and high quality. Rare combination if you ask me.

I bought this one as well. Total crap. Didn't even last a week before it stopped working consistently. If I unhooked it then put it back on it would start working again on my 430EXII for a bit then stop after a while. I returned it and just picked up a used ST-E2 for a good price.
