So i bought a vagbond II from a fellow POTN member and wanted to take it out for a test shoot. These were shot in late November late in the night and friggin cold. My friend was kind enough to volunteer and brave the cold for me. We had talked about a location which is usually empty at the time of night we were shooting however, the night we shot they were having an art gallery showing on the same block... This was a challenging shoot for me. I've never taken my AB800 outside, i've never shot a car and i've never used OCF @ night.

During the shoot I probably should have switched locations however We really wanted this area and against my instinct i stuck with it. There was a very strong street lamp on camera right that i had to match exposure wise and color temp wise.. due to heavier than usual car traffic i also had difficulty positioning the car the way i wanted without blocking traffic or getting kicked out by the cops...

Enough with my bickering.. overall i do like the way the photo's came out but i think it could have been a lot better.. Oh well this is how we learn!

why is there so much negative space on the right in #2? or in #1? (or are you trying to show the car going the other way in #1?) I think some minor composition fixes would help the pictures drastically, but technically they are great.

Have to agree with previous poster on both counts. One question though, why does Larry have a "princess" vanity plate on his car ? ;)

Nice shots. I like the space in the photo shows the architecture of the bridge and buildings, I think it brings a cool feeling to the shot. It would be nice with some light trails like in the previous shot though.

Oh and whats up with the plate looks like a chicks car?

Good catch! I'm not sure that I want to hear the answer? :D

Overall, you made interesting shots out of these. I wish you'd worked on evening out the density of the last two. And agree that I would crop some off the right side of #1. That would also have the added advantage of conforming with the IMAGE POSTING RULES which require a maximum 1024 pixels on any side, so sadly, I have to remove the [IMG] tags.

So i took everyone's advice and went ahead and took some of the negative/distracting space out of the photo's. Originally i did want to keep them wide to include some of the cool architecture however i think everyone is right it's taking away from more than it give dues to the composition. Originally i wanted to do all these photo's at dusk, but due to scheduling conflicts night time was the only time that work for the both of us. Thanks for the commments!

Photosguy, you took down my pictures is such a smooth manner that i couldn't even be annoyed. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh, and Larry is a man of different taste than most... lol just kidding. He nicknamed the car "princess" cause since the day he has bought it there have been small little repairs that keep eating at his wallet. He doesn't actually have a vanity plate i PS'd it in.

1. I wanted to keep the light streaks of the car passing by otherwise i would have cropped this some more

I like these better, but would like to see more room at the front of the last two for them to "move into". The other two are more of a "guy shot", so they work for me.
