I'm running LR 1.4 and (maybe foolishly) upgraded to Snow Leopard last fall. Now. LR will often crash when importing files.

I want LR 3 but the beta does NOT have NR enabled. Drat, I shoot ISO 3200 all winter along and need NR. I don't want to spend $100 to upgrade to LR 2 when LR 3 is due out this spring. In the mean time LR 1 keeps crashing for me.

What are my options?

  • Limp along with LR 1?
  • Downgrade to OS 10.5
  • Go to LR 2 and skip 3 altogether?
  • Switch to Aperture?
  • Install / run LR 1 in Win XP in a virtual machine?
  • Install / run LR 1 in OS 10.5 in a virtual machine?

I would say limp along or use another temporary program in the meanwhile, spring is not too long away then you can upgrade to LR3

Maybe enable rosetta? LR1 was made with the g5 in mind, so it may need rosetta.

Download the LR2 trial?

Also, IMO you do not need NR on an ISO 3200 shot if you use a current DSLR and expose well.

LR 2 trial - that would give me 30 days, right? Hmmm.

I have currently installed LR 1.4 in my Windows Virtual Machine and am seeing if I can make that approach work.

I shoot indoor sports with my 1D IIn and at ISO 3200, even well exposed, the images look much better with some NR applied so I'm reluctant to give that up ...

LR3 beta will last to april if you try that.

Do you really need the additions in Snow Leopard? I'm a mac user too and whilst there were some neat touches, personally I haven't really reaped the 64bit benefit. Some bits are quicker but generally I've not noticed too much. So I guess I'm saying, if you don't find major benefits in SL maybe dropping back to leopard for a couple of month would be a sound option especially as the upgrade has introduced an element of instability in LR.

I'm not sure how to revert to Leopard, or if it is even possible. No, I don't want to wipe the HD clean and start over ...

Did you try installing rosetta? 10.6 got rid of it, so might help to reinstall it. CS and CS2 were made around the same time as LR and require rosetta, and not sure if LR is also built on the universal binary like LR2.

I had another application that required rosetta so, yes, I did install it - at least I think I did. There is no indication anywhere that I can find that it is installed and running. That was a week ago and I have had LR failures since then.

Put in your OSX Snow Leopard disk, and then it should give you an option for "extras" or something like that. From there you can instal Rosetta.

It's not a Rosetta issue, otherwise it wouldn't have run in the first place. Whenever you launch an app that requires Rosetta and it's not installed, SL will prompt you to download and install from Apple. There is no need to install from the installer disc if you have an internet connection.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Might have been a plugin, and that's what I would be most concerned about not being able to run.
