Looking at purchasing a T1i with the 18--55 kit lense and a 55-250 canon refurbished lense for $969. Does this seem like a decent deal or should I hold out for something better? Also, will these two lenses be suitable for a beginner doing basic shots on vacations, kids, and possibly some wildlife? Any suggestions would be great and much appreciated. Thanks!!

Thats a pretty high price, especially for refurbished.
Thats a pretty normal beginners kit so you should be fine for a while.

I got same package 4-5 months ago at Costco, + charger, bag, 3G card , but the lenses all new for aprox 930$. I'm new to DSLR also, but i would get a body only ,should find it for 700$ and save for better glass. You should find same deal at lower price.

not sure about prices, but the body and lens are a great way to start.. if you find you shoot under lower light or want less DOF get a 50 mm f1.8 too.

The canon T1i/500D it is a Very good camera. The lenses that you mention are very competent lenses. However, the price that you mention is way to high. I got mine and the lens set for a bit more (brand new). keep searching and good luck.

I would go get the body only and buy decent lens. The 18-55 doesn't have enough reach for wildlife. Class 6 SD cards nowadays are cheap . You can get 8 Gb under $20 at amazon.

The equipment is a great choice but the price is way to high for a kit with a refurb lens. Check the web sites of reputable sellers such as B&H and Adorama. The T1i has all the key features you would need in a camera unless you are a very advanced and/or specialized user. The 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens combination covers more than the range needed for general purpose photography and they are optically very good considering their price. The camera does not include the SDHC memory card. Make sure that you get a name brand and one that is at least Class 4. Canon suggests Class 6 for best results with video and multiple bursts of shots.

If your looking to spend that kind of money and like photography i would suggest u get the 40D or 50d instead. Either of these two bodies will be a much better purchase in my opinion, and will allow u to grow into them. If your going to take photography seriously you mite grow out of the T1i pretty quickly, and need a new body.

If you still decide on the T1i, look around a little more as the pirces u mentioned are a bit high.

Does this deal sound any better??? It would be $775 after bing cash back, but I would still have to buy another lense. Too bad I missed all the deals earlier this month:confused:

If you'll be doing any of your kids' sports shooting you might want to consider the 40D/50D. For everything else the T1i is great but fast action is not its strongest suit.
