I've done some research on how to make a watermark in Photoshop, now I just need to know where I can get a cute graphic art image to include in my watermark. Can I create my own? If so, what is the easiest way. Is there some images on the web that are free to use? thanks!

You can look up free images or you could try to make something with the shape tools in PS. Personally, I just use a handle or a name with the copyright symbol.

I don't mind a graphic in your signature as long as it is not too large and gawdy. Keep in mind that you would probably want something that will display right when its opacity is reduced. In most cases I just like to stick to text in a signature.

There is not shortage of odd ball graphics on the net and many of them are free as long as it is not for commercial use. There are many talented artisits on Deviant Art (external link) and most of these do fall within those free guidelines. This is just one of many sites that you will find on a search. There are lots of very good tutorials out there as well on how to make these from scratch.

It is not that hard to make one for yourself if you have some Creative Suite experience. Illustrator is the best place to make these and then bring them into photoshop.

What kind of graphic were you looking for.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

The first thing you need to identify in creating a watermark is to decide what your purpose is. Do you want to label your image as belonging to you? Something small and text based, probably stating your name and/or web site, is what you're after. You don't need any kind of graphic for this, just a font you like. Or are you looking for a watermark that will obscure a portion of your image in order to prevent others from using it without your permission. In that case you want something of a more substantial size.

If you've decided that you're looking for a graphic then there are a lot of sources available. A free source that I like is dingbat fonts. If you're not looking for anything too different then this can work really well. A really good source is http://www.dafont.com (external link). If you don't want to work with a font symbol then I would take a look at the vector illustrations from a source like http://www.istockphoto.com (external link). Another option would be to work with a graphic designer to create something which is specifically yours.

The reason why a suggest either a font or a vector illustration is because both can be sized up to anything you want. With any sort of logo (including watermarks) it is important to be able to work with it at many different sizes, from very small to very large. Bitmap-based images don't give you this flexibility, only vectors. Probably the best know vector illustration program out there is Adobe Illustrator. That being said there are probably other programs out there too, but I'm not familiar with them.

I hope this information helps.
