I'm going to buy a 5d Mark II and I found one, refurbished, that is $400 cheaper than a brand new one. It is being sold from a trusted dealer but I don't know exactly what refurbished could mean. It comes with a 3yr warranty from some Canon authorized dealer, but not Canon. The seller states that the camera is in perfect cosmetic and working condition.

Is the savings worth it?

So long as the seller's return policy is acceptable, why wouldn't you want to save $400?

well if you dont mind... tell us who the vendor is and we can tell you if there worth trusting or not.

OR you could buy a refurb 5D2 from Adorama for $2199 that comes with a full 1 year warranty... and this camera will practically be brand new fresh from Canon.

If it's really a trusted dealer and it comes with a 3 year warranty, I'd say what do you have to lose?

I've just never bought anything refurbished before and this is a big purchase but it also poses big savings. I'm just a little nervous and just trying to see what kind of experiences others have had buying refurbished equipment.

"refurb" may even be better then brand new

At least you know someone has checked and certified camera works instead of assembly line where they probably only check a certain percentage.

I believe Canon warranty is One Year, so looks like you are getting a better deal at $400 cheaper.

You will want to make sure it's "refurbished" and not "used" ... I know there is a difference, am not sure how to word it :(

I've bought a few refurbs, my current 5D2 is a refurb and it is rock solid.

I bought a refurb 5D2 from Adorama in December and I am completely satisfied so far. It came in a sealed Canon box, identified as an official refurb by the manufacturer. Adorama was excellent to deal with and the price was right for me.

You used the word trusted.

If you trust the dealer...buy it.

That's a great price. People often fork over much more for a used one with little or no warranty. I rather by refurbish over used any day. Especially when it come to private party.

If it is truly a trusted dealer with a good return policy, go for it. Like a few others said before, if you don't let us know!! :)

If adorama still has cashback, it's even cheaper. it was 10% last week.

Maybe its just me. I rather spend the extra 400 dollars which in this hobby is not that much, and know that im the first to lay my fingers on it.

In my opinion, it all depends on where you buy it! If reputable, they should stand behind a refurbed camera. Adorama has a 1 year warranty on refurbs, I believe.

My 2nd 10D was refurbished from Adorama in early 2007 ... $1100 cheaper than my first and new one was in 2003. Granted it was an older camera by then having been replaced by a few upgrades but it was still in new condition and is still always used without any problems.

My 2nd 5D is also refurbished and while the shutter count hasn't reached my 1st 5D yet (I tend to pick up the refurbished 5D over the two year older 5D) it was and is as good as my "full list price" 5D.
