I sometimes tout this as a cost-benefit of starting off with using Photoshop Elements over jumping straight into CS.... but we never know if it is going to come again.

Well just got an email this morning from Adobe for their $299 upgrade from Elements.
So, any of you registered Elements users looking to move to CS4, check your email.

Just to put this deal in perspective... CS4 retails for $699 by itself... this means if you bought Elements for ~$60, you get CS4 for a total of $360... you've saved yourself over $300 by starting out with Elements.

$299 - Upgrade offer
+ $60 - Initial cost of Elements (bought mine through Costco.)
______
$360 - (plus taxes, etc) Total cost of ownership.

As a warning, they seem to do this when a new release of CS is around the corner... so you may also want to factor in upgrading to CS5 if that is a desire. At typical past $199 upgrade price, that would make total cost of ownership of CS5 $560... still cheaper than $699 asking price.

(I personally have no plans to upgrade... am happy with my LR/PSE workflow.)

PS: Email states offer is valid Feb 1, 2010 - Feb 20, 2010.

I've been thinking about that email all day, you can also save another $90 by buying lightroom 2 along with CS4. I'm seriously considering this deal. I was saving up for a 40d, but like you said, I don't know when a deal like this will come around again. I think it's too good to pass up!!

I did the elements to cs4 upgrade through this same "deal" last September. Absolutely a great deal if you were planning on getting CS4.
