My 5D Cinema Rig

I spent all day getting this thing together. I was missing a few pieces for the matte box and couldn't get the tripod plate to fit right. A little bit of shaving metal and a trip to the hardware store finally got it all to snap together securely.

Tomorrow is our first big commercial shoot with it. I've done a lot of in house testing with just the camera and lenses, but we really wanted the setup to look good in front of a client. I still need the Zacuto Z-Finder and a follow focus, but this will get me going.

very untypical w/ the plate connecting the rail. Yours is different from everyone else bc everybody else have long rail running through the whole thing. The whole setup is very unusual for me, but if it works for you, then kudos to ya.

What kind of plate is that? don't forget to take off the strap...

That is a quick release plate from one of our broadcast video cameras. I couldn't figure out any other way to attach it to the tripod with what I had. The matte box rails has a receiver that attaches directly to that quick release plate.

I have more parts left over. There might be a better way to do it, but I can't figure it out.

If anyone has a suggestion on a better way to attach it to a Sachtler tripod, I am all eyes.

What screen are you using?

That's a marshal field monitor. Not sure the model number but it is native 720p with SDI inputs. Not that SDI helps in this case. I am just going in analog SD.

Apparently there's a few HDMI to SDI converters, not worth it you think?

Not really. The output is so crappy anyway I don't see the point. If I am not mistaken the HDMI out is downconverted SD. Isn't that right?

If you use the magic lantern firmware apparently you can get 1080i output while recording.

And yes, if I was your client, I would be very impressed!

I use cavision "rear bracket" attaches to standard bogen video QR plate. your setup might have some limitation for future expansion bc your rail is short. I would mount the monitor at either side for easier handling while panning and pulling focus.

you just need another satchler plate, shorter one.
