I must be having either a mental block moment, an Alzheimer's moment or both trying to get my head around why it wouldn't.

Because that little adjustment to the eyepiece only affects the focus at the eyepiece, not at the focal plane where the sensor sits.

Basically, assuming the lens AF is working properly then the image rendered on the sensor will be in focus. Your eye (and mine btw) on the other hand, do not focus properly anymore. The diopter adjust for the eyepiece just approximates what your glasses do.

I wear glasses for reading and computer use only. I don't wear them when I shoot, although I do have to put them on if I need to read the menus on my camera. You get used to it.

Glasses for the Computer: Yes
Glasses for Shooting: No .. So far, diopter adjustment can keep up with vision.

I was 20/10 in both eyes until my arms started shrinking around age 45 or so... Go Figure!

I put my glasses on to see the camera settings; take them off to take the photo; put them back on to view the image and/or change the settings; take them off to take another photo.

If anyone comes up with a 'cure' for presbyopia, he/she should get a medal.

Perhaps not a "cure", but bifocal contacts are as close to a miracle as anything I've ever experienced. I've been wearing them for 5-6 years now, and they are amazing. You need to find a good Optometrist, who will take the time needed to get the prescription right. It takes patience, I tried 4-5 pairs over a 2 or 3 week period before we got it just right. But now, with my contacts in, I have perfect 20/20 vision.

Randy, may I ask how bad your eyes are without any correction ?

Honestly, I don't know exactly. My vision was perfect until I turned about 40, then started going downhill, slowly, then more rapidly. I went with reading glasses, then bifocal glasses for a while. My Dr suggested bifocal contacts, and I was a bit leary at first. But once we figured out the right combination it was nothing short of miraculous. I can tell you without the contacts in, I need reading glasses with +3.25 power to read almost anything.

I've been wearing glasses for around 12 years.. First I was short sighted but later both short sighted and long sighted (mum always said I'd go blind)..I used to persevere with both reading glasses and normal glasses.. I've since got a pair of graduated bifocals which are absolutely brilliant..

Had an effect on my photography?? Nope..

I have bifocals which are fine when shooting since I look through the top of the lens, but for viewing my computer they suck. I get a sore neck using my laptop because I need to tilt my head back to look through the bottom of the lens. I also have a pair of reading glasses, but then it's a pain swapping them all the time.

Getting old is no fun sometimes. :)

I'd like to see if I can get my eyes lasered to correct the near-sightedness and live with a resulting stronger prescription for my far-sightedness. I don't think the technology exists to fix both.

ditto

With my glasses on I have 20/15 vision, Better than 20/20.
It's because of this great IQ My eyes have now, that I dont get lasik.
I'd hate to end up with 15/20 instead.

I know better than to ask but...

Why did you think I was that young? In point of fact, I turn 49 next Wednesday.

I'd love to try bifocal contacts. I bet they're horrendously expensive, though. I have enough trouble putting drops in my eyes, without even thinking about putting foreign bodies in them. I guess you can get used to anything with time.

How do you know which way is 'up'? My luck, I'd put them in with the reading portion at the top ...
