I know better than to ask but...

Why did you think I was that young? In point of fact, I turn 49 next Wednesday.

If you're only 48 you ARE young! :D

Heck, you're just a kid (I'm almost 52). But that's ok, I still bow to your photographic awesomeness.

No the glasses won't "hurt" your photography. If it does I suppose it's the reason I suffer from bad & uncreative compositions that border on cliche's.

I do have my own question though, why do people think 20/20 vision is perfect? Cripes that's like the 5th line from the bottom on the eye chart! 6 if you count the "Printed in USA" line ;)

I am short-sighted and usually wear contact lenses for shooting, but they are purposefully "weak" - as in, they don't correct my eyesight to perfect vision.

Does this mean I should be making adjustments to the dioptre thingy? Would I be able to adjust for better focus with full-strength contacts?

Thanks for all the replies.

I know it was a bit self indulgent, but it did come as a bit of a shock at the eye doctor.

I'm 48 this year and he said it's just normal wear and tear. I just had a little panic when I thought of my hobby.

Cheers,

I'd love to try bifocal contacts. I bet they're horrendously expensive, though. I have enough trouble putting drops in my eyes, without even thinking about putting foreign bodies in them. I guess you can get used to anything with time.

How do you know which way is 'up'? My luck, I'd put them in with the reading portion at the top ...

They're not any more expensive than regular contacts, the ones I have are disposable, I wear them for 30-60 days. I think they're maybe $150 year. You can get great deals at 1-800-Contcats, as well as Costco. And there is no top or bottom like bifocal glasses, not sure exactly how they work, but they do. It does take a few weeks of putting them in and taking them out to get used to the whole idea, but now it's just part of my morning routine, lke shaving.

Well... lets say you're near sighted and takes pictures without your glasses,
they'll just end up all out of focus. Pretty sure that is not superior to taking pictures
or viewing them with glasses on.

Why do people put their gear list here?
Pro photogs usually have everything anyways.

I've worn glasses since my early teens, it's something you get used to. I shoot all the time with mine on and the only problem is that the glasses get a bit smudged sometimes. I do however treat myself to a shoot with contact lenses in! :D

Sometimes I will shoot with my sunglasses (prescription) on just because it's so bright out but I prefer not too. When I wear them I can't see the meter in the viewfinder on my IIN or the III, probably because my eye is further back.

I have to wear my regular glasses for my laptop but not my desktop.

and Jay, I'm only a few years behind you. It looks like I will be in AZ for spring training the week of 3/15.

Since I've worn glasses for 59 years, I just don't get this question. Suck it up! Just do it :)

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.
