It's not 8 hrs (external link). It's not a short drive, either, but def. not 8 hrs. I know where you're coming from, though. I've got a 6YO son that I'd like to take to Le Claire, but I'm afraid that after 10 min. he be bored with it and it'd get frustrated trying to keep him entertained & take photos.

Oh, and on your way you can pick up me & ckort :)

Lol!...I've tried talking Chopper into coming up there a few times. Agree it would be difficult to keep the kids entertained, especially during the lulls. He'll get there one of these days ;).

Was out today, didn't get snowed on like I thought we might. A few shots...

Shot with a 55-250mm lens, which proves that "short" lenses aren't a bad thing out there...

Nice shot, Ed!! Some of my best shots have come from my 55-250.

I had to flip a coin to decide where I wanted to go today - Starved Rock or L&D 14. I ended up going to Starved Rock, but wished I'd gone to L&D14.

It sure felt nice to be in the lower 30's - but I'd have traded it for a little better light - especially later in the day when the action picked up! This second photo below was at 10,000 ISO at 1/1,000th.

That's the same way I feel any time I try a new spot for eagles.

I have no idea what that means. But I was 40 before I understood the phrase "you can't have your cake and eat it too". I'm a slow learner.

I'll get up that way some day...that is true. Hope to meet a couple of you when I do. Sheesh, though, if gas goes over $4 again, I may need to carpool...lol.

A couple shots from Saturday, Jan 29th. Very overcast day unfortunately... Probably the only time we'll make it there this year too.

DS: That second shot cracked me up. He sure looks like he is pissed at you for not getting a model release.
