Agree with Ed sadly.

Another nice couple of shots Ed, especially the rock star!

I'm pretty sure this weekend is going to be just as "bad" as this past weekend. The weather will not be anywhere near what it should be to get any numbers to the lock. I'm betting that it'll be the same as this past weekend, you'll get about 3 birds at the lock, a few down-river, and that's about it.

We did manage decent action Sunday, but if there wasn't any fish-tossing we'd have probably went home pretty fast

I was staying hopeful, even after seeing the dismal conditions on Sunday, but with the way the weather is going to be this week, I'd lay odds that this season, while never actually getting started, is fated to end.

That's too bad. This is my first and most likely only time we will make it over there this year. I've already rented the 100-400, so we're gonna take some photos of something this weekend! Were you at both 13 and 14?

I don't bother with #13, from what others who have been there have said it's useless to try and do any shooting there.

I was at both 13 and 14 last weekend. There were 150 baldies that we could count on Sunday. The lock is between the viewing area and the river so you are much further away at 13, and therefore cannot get the same quality images that you would get at 14. However, I think it would be very cool to go there with a tripod and video enabled DSLR with something like a 24-70 and get some nice footage of the amazing amount of eagles that are there. There were about 30 of them flying around while we were watching and there was a lot of fishing action. I wish I had done that last weekend, but it didn't occur to me until I got home Sunday night.

I may go back this weekend and try this early in the morning since the viewing area at 13 is on the Illinois side, and then spend the rest of the day at 14.

There was this one. Worth it to me to get out and spend the day getting one clean shot. A beautiful day with weather, no rain, soft correct wind direction. Good conversation and learning from the experts. I'm having a priceless good time that I'll never forget. I'll be out every day 9-5 'til Feb 8th.

I think there were five eagles total, all giving us various flight shot opportunities.

From #13 yesterday. Tough to get fishing shots, but more eagles than I've ever seen before. Blue sky to really tough lighting, but a joy to watch none-the-less.

Really like 4 & 6 Ken

@Ken Nielsen: How come you're teasing us with just one image per day? I want more!! Also, did you see any eagles Monday morning feeding on the rocks by the bridge?

From #13 yesterday.

Oh man those are cool. I wonder if I met you K, I've been asking most everyone there if they are on the Cannon Forums, but everyone denies.

Chris, I've been dead every day, out shooting from morning, come home after sunset, plug in, like tonight two hour download to computer, go out to the local saloon and get a bite to eat, come back and choose an image just to show it is really happening, post, fall in sack get up next morning and do it all over again, I'm in heaven. Main reason I don't really have time to look at what I'm getting is being sure I have triple backups and cards and batteries are set to go out the next morning. I'm dedicated, but there is fun too. Today was like a Hemingway novel, commeraderie, live action and surprises at every turn. Each one of these days out here has been the best day of my life. I shot into the second 16G CF card today with most of the action happening as I was getting ready to leave: the sun broke loose and so did the eagles. This is after I tossed in a bucket of fish I contracted with a fisherman to get from early in the morning who came up to the dockside in a boat and handed up a net full of beautiful fish which I had fun tossing back in after they left. We each pitched in and sent the net back will plenty of dollars as a thank-you!

Here's a sequence, but nowhere near the thousands of images I am getting which i will post as I get back home and am able to sort through them. It will take months I'm sure.

My camera smells like fish, there is fish oil in my buttons and CF bay door... but it's fresh fish!

Ken, I don't know if you got my pm or not, but I think an early morning visit to 13 would add to your experience. You will have the sun to your back and there are a lot of eagles flying overhead.
