Is there such a thing? 6500k to 14000k? Any in the rosco book? Thanks!

What are you trying to do? What type of light are you attempting to match with a filter?

14000K metal halide bulbs over my reef tank. Just messing around mainly.

Most of the metal halide bulbs I see are in the 4000K range.

While on the subject.. Is this easier to match? I am pretty new to the gel thing.

Even if you could find such a gel, what type of strobe are you going to pass through it? The problem you'll have is that that type of gel (again, if they made it) would be of such a dark, dark purpley color that a simple hotshoe strobe wouldn't have enough powwer to light through it with any kind of effective throw. I work with gel covered lights all the time. The darker the color, the less light that actually comes out. Full CTB is really pretty dark to start with, let's say you simply double up that gel, now it's a double full CTB, how effective will your hotshoe flash be through that? Not very. Even a AB 1600 would be dininished by quite a lot. The point is, you need some heavy duty strobes to be effective through that dark of a gel. I usually work with video lights. Constant lights is the term thrown around by still photogs. One of the more basic lights we use on a daily basis is a 1K light. In other words a 1000 watt light. It seems like a lot compaired to your household light bulbs that are in the 60 watt range. That should give you an idea how bright that is. It's normally a very effective light, but when you throw a double full CTO or a party purple over it the light gets knocked right down in a huge way. The camera can still resolve it, but it's way down. To really be effective with those dark colors you need to double the light output. A 2K light is next on the video hit list. Anyone looking a the electrical bill lately? So, what chance does your 140 guild number flash have against such a dark gel?

No big deal, any gel will do that, Roscoe or not. They are designed to do that. They never leave any melted goo on you lights. It happens all the time. That is why in the video industry we call such things, "expendables." You throw them away at the end of the day. If you don't want that to happen then you need to get the more expensive and thicker gels that fit you flash unit. Or you can use a larger piece of gel and bow the gel out away from the face of the strobe. Give it a bit of an air gap and that won't happen.

This is the bad side of the internet, just because someone can post their opinion online doesn't mean it's right, nor should you believe eveything you see on youtube. That guy is an idiot that doesn't know what the hell he's doing.

Same color as my lights. There is so much current in there that I wanted the flash to freeze everything.
