Ok... Im looking for a backup camera that to carry around and something more portable than my DSLR... I do like the G series cameras... Now I just have to decide what model to go with. :(

One thing I do not like is the lower pixel count on the G11 and the plastic body... the G10 just seems to be a better camera all the way around... Please let me know what you guys think... :)

If you are concerned about low light/high ISO shots get the G11 otherwise I'd stick with the G10.

The G11...no doubt. It’s more all-around..

More concerned about alloy vs high quality polymer construction or ultimate image quality? Image quality concerns me more. For all-around performance the G11 is the clear winner. It's not constrained to an "ideal light" condition to perform admirably. It's much more versatile than a G10

If neither is acceptable. it’s time to look at a DLSR

I read a lot of reviews and comparisons before buying my G11, and to me it was a clear winner.

I have owned G9, G10, and now have a G11. My clear favorite of the 3 is the G11. I like the low-light performance and the swiveling LCD is great for low level shots. I also like that you can rotate the surface of the LCD toward the camera and close it up, protecting the LCD.

Yea, the G11 has a lower pixel count, but the image quality is higher. Canon went with less pixels since it resulted in less noise and better low light performance. Unless you really need the extra pixels for printing larger than 20x24 or such, the tradeoff of less pixels for better image quality is a good one. If I didn't have the G10 already, I'll definitely go with the G11.

Anyone looking for a well cared for used G10 at market rates?

If you need a high-res shots in ideal, brightly-lit conditions at ISO 80, get the G10. Otherwise the G11 is your camera :)

The G10 does just fine up to and including ISO-400. It delivers performance no worse than film did back in "the day". If you add good NR software (such as Imagenomic), even with the G10, you're still better off than with film. Above 400, yeah sure, there's noise, but that noise is very much like the grain you'd see in pushed films or ultra-high-speed films. I prefer the higher pixel count, particularly for its ability to withstand close cropping. Careful planning and judicious use of NR software go a long way in making up for the noise problem. By contrast, there's no way to add back the information that a 10MP sensor loses compared to a 14.7MP sensor. Oh well, it's a big world -- plenty of room for everyone...
