I thought about the lock-tite too, but I did not have any handy at the moment.. if it happens again, I will do the same with the lock-tite.

I repaired my 17-50 as well, no real problems, but I did use lock-tite on the threads (the removable kind) to prevent it from happening again. I think it's caused by the torque applied when installing and removing the hood.
