You can work with 5D mk2 RAW files in LR2.x and open RAW files from LR to PS CS3 by letting LR render the RAW file.

Used to do that before I upgraded to PS CS4. Upgraded to use smart objects back and forth between LR and PS.

DNG is the best way to Archive your files for the future. The only thing you lose is the ability to open with Canon software.

I see. What I'd really like to do is upload the RAW and somehow still be able to process with ACR CS3...that is until I get used to work with ALR. So far, the only alternative to stay within my comfort zone will be using ALR to read the 7D or 5DmrkII, turn the RAW files into DNG's and the re-open them with ACR CS3...I figure.

This is crucial, thank you. I am thinking space, management within Adobe software,..

Juan, you might want to have a read here (external link). It's a link to Adobe's site with an explanation on DNG. Also, all you need to do is download the free Adobe standalone dng converter then process within CS3.

I'm not a huge book reader. But in learning Raw work flow I went to the library (never been their either). I checked out a book read one chapter and returned it. I had to own this book so I got on Amazon. If you want to improve you work flow and understand the workings of RAW nondestructive. I recommend this book.

I process outside of CS2. Did it change on CS3?

I know, I know,...rather than reading a skim and scan thru pages...which is awful.

I do, however have next to me a book that has been very important for my transition from PS Elements to CS3. It's called 100 Photoshop (Extended) Tutorials. It has several chapters on the matter, and of course, flies out to other venues...but it's been helpful too for all the RAW processing deal.

As I mentioned, I purchased Scott Kelby's great book on Lightroom 2.0,...very illustrative, awesome edition but I can't get to find the time to gt into it as I should.

I think i'll better off by getting my hands on this other book you just mentioned. I had no idea about it...thanks man.

I shot 10% RAW 90% jpeg before reading that one book Now I shot 95% RAW 5% jpeg.

Reading that book has greatly saved my Hours on editing one job. Most of my photo's never see PS anymore.

Cool,...I was able to fire up Lightroom and get the update that covers the 7D "connection". I was also able to export some DNG's and they "go out" with sidecar data and eveything,...just like a RAW. I opened the files with ACR CS3 and everything was working.

The thing over is I am really more inclined to go for the 7D than for the 5Dmrk II, (money, speed, etc.) but whatever the choice end up being, I will need this software to take care of the RAW coming out of them anyways. (I only shoot RAW).

In here, I was able to get info on that DNG freebie from Adobe and some insight about the way to handle "the new stuff"...so I am very much thankful to you guys...nite :-)
