I caught this female coyote searching through the snow at the edge of the forest near Haines Junction hear in the Yukon Territory. When I stopped, she raised her head, resulting in this photo. I know coyotes are very common, but I thought I'd share this one with you, anyway. Comments and criticisms are welcome, as usual.

Just wondering what focal length you used on this shot?

It's a pretty scene, shows the animals habitat.

Pretty healthy looking animal for Haines Junction in the middle of winter. What did you shoot her with?
Nice photo.

I like it! Lucky you to have all the wildlife you have right outside your door.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I shot her with a Canon 50D and a 100-400 L at 400 mm, handheld. And, yes, we are indeed lucky to have that much wildlife!

They are not THAT common! Well perceived and executed.

Awesome! That really makes me want to get a longer lens, or at least a doubler for my 70-200. Then again I'd still need to find the opportunity to put it to use. I saw two coyotes in Yosemite last weekend and they never once stopped and posed for me. How inconsiderate of them.

I'll have to keep that in mind. The coyotes I'm used to seeing in Monterey County are scrawny, so when I saw one in Yosemite that looked a lot like the one posted here, I was surprised. They sure do look good in their winter coats.

I had one sitting outside my back fence looking at the house. It looked the size of a German Shepherd. I think it was deciding whether it wanted to cross the fence (easily done for this animal), and wait for the cocker spaniels to bring it breakfast (themselves).
However, it quielty dissappeared before I got the camera out (rats).
We hear them most every evening.
