On Sunday my 7D started sending ERR messages. Tried all the usual fixes but after about thirty seconds ERR would appear again. Finally the camera would not power up at all. I called Canon and they sent a shipping label. This is the second time in four months of owning the 7D that is has gone to New Jersey, the first was for erratic focusing. They fixed the focus but now I have this problem. I really like the camera but have reached a point where I'm not sure I can depend on it. How much crap does a person have to absorb before demanding a new camera from Canon?

I'd say you've reached that point. Ouch.

You got what they call "a bad copy".

Although I love mine, I'm getting the same feeling of unsureness regarding reliability. The pop-up flash on my 7D will occasionally refuse to work with a persistent "Busy" message on the top LCD, which will last anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours. I hope that's my only problem.

And I hope your problems will be at an end when you get yours back.

few hours? are you the typical cool guy that like to exaggerate?
built-in flash have limited capacitance so don't expect it to do a bunch of flash w/o having to recharge.

Why? Just express your concerns and perhaps they will work with you on getting you a new replacement. People have received new replacement bodies for everything from focus issues to dead cameras on numerous Canon bodies, not just the 7D. Sounds like you got a bad copy or a lemon. If it were me I would of demanded a new body and been done with it.

Thankfully my 7D has been rock solid reliable (knocks on wood). Hopefully your rebuilt or replaced body will give you more reliability.

Really thats nothing...
Look at buddy with the 1D problem. Even myself. I bought a 40D, i started getting black screen at an event, and then the 40D went dead. I sent it in, then got it back and was out of focus on most shots, had to send it back in with a LONG letter this time, and then it worked fine for the next 12months when i sold it...

Unfortunately, this seems to be a policy by Canon going back several years already. I used to buy two new cameras almost annually, my last Canon purchase was the 1DMKIII, casually looking at the posts, Canon's new machines are proudly carnying on the new Canon tradition ~ ship & fix later ~ most people don't or won't send back faulty goods ~ an unfortunate fact that manufacturers take advantage of.

Not exaggerating! And I didn't use the flash even a moderate amount. Used it one time as AF illumination and it didn't work until about 2 hours later, and yes I kept trying it during that time period. What do you think now?

I am not sure but I believe it is 4 times. The camera or lens needs 3 repairs, on the 4th issue, they give you a new one.

Reliability of a camera is more important than any bells and whistle it offers. Send in and get a replacement.
