Why did you reply to the initial email, its a very obvious scam just from the way its written in the first email and the subsequent emails back that up totally.

On top of that

* George is one of the fave names of Nigerian scammers
* Are you at the level where people regularly fly you across the country to shoot jobs for them in areas where there are tons of other togs
* If it sounds too good to be true it very usually is.
* Its fairly short notice, another common ploy they use, they need the urgency later in the scam.

Get used to receiving and discarding these.

I guess no NY'ers read this thread.

It's Schenectady, NY 12305 not Chenectady

Yup - they'll send you a bogus check that looks convincingly real. But since you're on to them you'll just tear it up, send it to the FBI, or frame it.

Other folks fall for it. They deposit the check - and there are usually "further instructions" to pay for some other service/person, usually involving the sender. Of course you pay them from your checking account which IS BACKED by REAL funds - theirs is NOT.

So you end up paying them REAL money from your account, their larger check to you bounces, and to add insult to injury you may or may not get hit with a bad check fee. You'd be amazed how many greedy/foolish people fall for this.

....and that's a wise move. Most of the time a trained teller or manager can spot it. But often people will just quickly deposit it via ATM assuming all is well, and then immediately start "drawing" on it.

Had an interesting discussion about this sort of thing with a local bank manager. This sort of scam also extends to "foreign lottery ticket winnings" as well as a variety of creative forms by the budding entrepeneur.

I wonder if some enterprising folks try to see how many of those checks they can collect and frame. :-)

Email him and give the address of a UPS store they let you pick up ups items there. Would be fun just to have the check. Plus you can check the IP address in the email and you might find out it's from.....well let me take a shot in the dark ummmm Nigeria.

I caught onto the Schenectady thing too... I got one of those saying they were from England and wanted to fly me out there. They were pretty persistant about needing my address so they could "come meet with me" right away though.
